Runway the "Real" Way: Peter Som Spring 2012

1. Muss around.

"This look is all about a rich girl gone bad," says Wella Creative Director, Eugene Souleiman, who created the hair look seen here. "The clothes are so feminine, that we wanted to rough up the hair." To prep strands to recreate this "modern woman with an edge," messy mane, Souleiman and his team of stylists blow-dried models' hair with Wella Professionals Perfect Styling Blow Dry Lotion and Velvet Amplifier to add texture, "inspired by a 1960s, rock and roll influence."

2. Extend yourself.

Pastel-hued extensions in a range of shades, from amethyst to rose gold, accented models' hairlines. Wella Color Ambassador (and celeb fave), Aura Friedman, wanted the soft colors to have "a subtle, understated effect that's a natural evolution of previous pop-of-color trends." She painted sections of platinum blonde hair with Wella dyes to create the rainbow of swatches used at the show, but DIYer's can buy single-section, pre-dyed extensions in peaches or light pink to try the look out at home.

3. Parting ways.

"I used a low side part to create more volume around the head," explains Souleiman of the look's lop-sided glamour. Souleiman secured extensions with bobby pins near the part and brushed a veil of hair over the techni-colored pieces so that "the shades would peek through and still look pretty." To add movement, he sprayed Wella Ocean Spritz Beach Texture hairspray on roots and massaged gently though hair to create dimension.

4. Stay clean.

Balance is key with more extreme beauty looks. MAC makeup artist (and backstage vet), Tom Pecheux played off of the grungy hair look by keeping the catwalkers' complexions clean and "focusing only on the eyes." To emphasize the playfulness of the models, he layered plumy-burgundy and yellow shadows on their lids, and applied a creamy, nude lipstick to their pouts.

5. Nail it.

Topping off this palette of poppy shades are nude, shimmery tips. Zoya nail techs used the iridescent polish, "Erin," for backstage manis. To get the most out of this lacquer, layer it over a coat of pink or purple for a punchier pedicure.
