Go full and smooth

"For a woman in her 40s, there's nothing like a great blow-out combined with a rich, shiny color," says Pantene celebrity hairstylist, Danilo. Need proof? Just check out Elizabeth Hurley's glossy mane.

Add a pretty accessory

A slim, bejeweled headband will add the perfect amount of sparkle to an updo like Salma Hayek's.

Play with texture

Texture in short hair like Halle Berry's can easily be created with styling creams and pomades, says James Corbett, colorist and owner of James Corbett Studio. For a style that you can still run your fingers through, avoid ingredients like petroleum or castor oil, which can be sticky and weigh hair down.

Try a fuss-free hairstyle

For a coif that takes only a few minutes, tease the hair on the crown of your head to give you lift, then wrap hair into a low ponytail or twist it into a chignon like Jane Krakowski.

Bang it out

"With short hair, it's important to have movement," says Corbett. "If the hair is not properly textured in front, you may end up with a blunt bowl cut." Ask your hairdresser for a few more angles, or opt for a long side bang like Mariska Hargitay.
