kim kardashian wearing hair chains 2010

It's winter and you're cold. Your bulky coat and snow boots leave much to be desired, so how's a girl supposed to accessorize? That's where hair accessories come in, a huge winter trend this season. From baubles to headbands and feathers, see which celeb knows her hair flair, and which needs an accessory intervention. Read below as Angelo David Pisacreta, owner of the Angelo David Salon in New York weighs in on what makes a successful hair accessory.

Kim Kardashian's Hair Chains: FAIL

Anything Kim Kardashian wears, does, or says is going to be a hit because people love her, says Pisacreta. And although these chains fit with the style of her hair, the average gal typically cannot pull off a head full of chains without making people wondering where the rest of her Cleopatra Halloween costume is. "Your accessory really has to fit the theme you are trying to go for," says Pisacreta. "Too often people wear accessories that are just too contrived."

If you're not sure how to choose an accessory — make it match your personality, but also make it balanced. "Whether you're going for fun or sophisticated, you need to have some sort of happy medium," says Pisacreta. "If your hair look is strong, don't go over the top with an accessory. This is also the rule for an updo with a lot of volume, keep it simple."

These glitzy chains paired with Kardashian's severely slicked pony and smoky eye makes this look quite a statement, but perhaps too strong of one for an event that doesn't include paparazzi and a red carpet.
