How to Use Dry Shampoos

Instead of washing out your hair's natural oil and daily styling products, dry shampoo actually absorbs whatever is causing your hairstyle to misbehave. Many dry shampoos not only give you a quick surface clean, but they can also add volume to limp, lifeless (and dirty) hair. So whether your bangs are just a tad too greasy or yesterday's style has lost its luster, dry shampoo can solve the problem in a pinch.

Before applying, make sure your hair is completely dry. The product will come in a powder or spray form and should be applied sparingly but evenly to the roots of your hair. With powder, use about a tablespoon and massage it into your scalp. If you prefer the spray, lift up sections of your hair while spritzing and rubbing it into your scalp. Allow five to 10 minutes for the hair to dry. The next step is simple: Turn your head upside down and brush it all out, then style as usual. Voilà! A quick way to a clean-looking head of hair without the hassle of lather, rinse, and repeat.

Using dry shampoo is also a good way to keep color in dyed hair. Less washing equals less fading. So skip the shower when you’re running late or just want to use a little extra time perfecting your smoldering smoky eye. Can't get your hands on a proper dry shampoo?
