Backstage Report: Whitney Eve
by Leah Melby

The Inspiration: "She wanted to go in a different direction than usual. A little edgier, downtown, and London-like," Make Up For Ever artist Kristi Matamoros said about the Whitney Eve look, with the she in question being none other than The City's Whitney Port. The hair team described their fashionably frizzy ponytail as "a very '90s perm that's growing out. The girl who's hit the mall, and she's stopping at Claire's."
Makeup: Matamoros wanted "very dirty, next day makeup" and blended taupe shadow for a non-traditional smoky eye. She skipped blush and used the same eye color to contour the cheeks. In the end, it was the lips that stole the show"Instead of a red-orange, we just went for it. Fall seems to be about an eye and a lip. We're really not being so stark with makeup anymore."
Hair: Martin-Christopher Harper, working for Cutler, used Argan oil on strands before rough-drying it. Ponytails were placed right over the occipital bone (the knob you feel on the back of your head). The fancy frizz was created by wrapping hair in figure eights around U-pins and "doing a little press with the iron."
Nails: The nails were a divine sparkle-fest in a robin's egg blue shade. One coat of CND's opaque blue gray Kristen was followed by two coats of the glittery Maisie. "It's a liquid gem effect that looks great when the girls are moving," said the CND manicurist.
